The amount of love and support from friends and family, near and far, has been absolutely amazing! I was overwhelmed, and to be honest, a bit scared to open a business on my own during the middle of a pandemic. The time was definitely not ideal to take a leap such as this one, but there is honestly no "perfect" time to do anything of this caliber, no matter what the business. Do I regret it ? Absolutely NOT ! Being able to be creative as my profession is what I've worked towards since I was able to work.
As I type this, I think of my grandmother. At a young age, she introduced me to many things that have opened up my mind, and allowed me to see things with a different eye. One of the things that was shown to me, was art. I remember one specific day, where she put a small canvas and a set of acrylic paint in front of me. I remember the paints being different shades of green. I know this was to keep me occupied while I was at her house, but whatever words she said to me as I aimlessly painted with shades of green, were always encouraging. That was something that always resonated with me, and since then, the need to be creative was instilled in me without even knowing it. It followed me into adulthood, into my time writing and recording music, and now into my career as a barber. I get to create because of her.
A month into what is Back Alley Tonsorium, Ive recieved a gift from my grandmother that I was always told about, but had never seen in person. As a shop warming gift, she gave me a piece of family history. I recieved a neck dusting brush that belonged to her maternal Great Grandfather from the 1800's. This is something I will cherish for all time, and hopefully be able to pass down when the time comes. It has brought so much more meaning to being a barber than I thought I knew. It took a little over 100 yrs, but there is now another barber in the family. I guess it was in my blood this whole time. Thank you grandma, for the amazing gift!
I will take this time to thank my supporters again. I cannot express how grateful I am for every head I've been able to cut so far, and for spreading the word about the Tonsorium. A million thank you's to all of you ! Well, one month down... forever more to go... I'll see you all at the tonsorium !
